I’m dreaming of…

… new furniture. A new sofa in particular. This sofa to be specific…

I think I’d like it with an assortment of slipcovers. A nice deep red floral for the winter months, a cool tan linen for summer, and a clean bright white for when I’m wanting to drive myself especially insane.
Or maybe this charcoal gray velvet. It’s so elegant, so lovely, and it would match my charcoal gray cat and his infernal charcoal gray cat hairs. Sadly it would clash with every other thing in my home, not to mention my lifestyle.

I love the color of this pretty blue one. And I already have the perfect fabric for making new living room drapes to go with it, which is a good thing since this trim little number would go with nary another thing in the room.
But wait! O, be still my heart. This big soft puffy one comes with a pale almost jade-ite green cover. And one can order extra covers in beige, dark red, white and a wholly impractical, but oh-so-cheerful and sunny shade of yellow. Cheerful is good, are we agreed?
Oh my goodness, yes! I think I’ll order this sofa! Today! And while I’m at it, I’ll spring for express delivery…. yes indeedy, we’ll have it in time for our Monday evening guests. In fact I’ll probably be able to sew up a few new covers for the throw pillows over the weekend….

… in my dreams that is. Yup, love those dreams.

I had to chuckle as I read that, Diane. I have a sofa that I HAD to have. I fell in love with it. Love it still. And it’s the biggest furniture purchase mistake I’ve ever made. It’s big. It’s lovely red in a microfiber. With big rolled arms and black feet. And it’s HUGE. It’s made both living rooms in which I’ve used it look like closets. Beware the lovely, tricksey sofas.

So, I tried to comment the other day on your UFO post and it appears it didn’t take. I need a UFO challenge. In (finally) unpacking and putting my sewing/craft room together in the last couple of weeks I’ve unearthed a whole squadron of UFO’s. Enough to fill a large plastic tote. AND a pile of mending. And I have a list of sewing projects beckoning to me and wooing me away from those UFO’s. I need help. I need an intervention. I need some way to not feel guilty about moving on. Or I need some motivation to tie up those loose ends.

Oh, and I also still need you to get in touch with me with your accurate phone number or some way of real time contact so that we can plan a get-together. Do you still have my info?

    Hugs, Kristine

Kristine… I think I still have your number and I’m gonna call you today! Maybe we can schedule a joint intervention ;)

I love that blue one!! Gorgeous!! I have a similar dream relatively often. But it is not happening any time real soon!

    • Diane Shiffer says:

Becky, I seriously love that shade of blue… I have a couple of fabrics for my someday living room that are that blue and a creamy white. Someday… :)

I hear you sister. I have some good awful couches, no money to get new one – I think I’m going to go to Mill End Fabric (what is sounds like – cheap fabrinc) and just staple some covers on.

    • Diane Shiffer says:

Carol the long winded (greatest screen name evah, girl!) I’ve done and redone the upholstery on mine several times, and it’s in desperate need of yet another redo. Oh well.. something to fill our empty hours, eh? ;)

I agree with #1 and #4 also and I would want the changeable extra slipcovers as well. I would even be ok with having to wash them on a regular basis…..but…for now…I guess I will stick with my dark green couches (two of them)

    Lady Dorothy says:

Oh, I’ve been wanting new sofas for the longest time. The only thing is that the two I have are in perfectly good shape. Well, not the only thing. I also don’t have money for a new couch. AND my mother bought one of them, so as long as it is in good shape and she lives here, I guess it stays. :-) And I should be so grateful, but oh, how I drool over ones like you’ve “chosen”. Shame on me.

    • Diane Shiffer says:

Lady Dee… I actually adore my current couches (which my mom bought for me!) It’s just that they are so worn out now. If I could replace them with exact replicas, I’d do it in a heartbeat. But in the meantime… I too will be grateful for what I’ve got♥

I love all four, and while we are shopping, I will need four homes to go with. And four maids, chefs and butlers as well. Ahh, I love dream shopping.

Last time I went furniture shoping I had screaming toddlers with me and I think we got a good deal because they were afraid we would let them tear the place apart if we didn’t LOL.

God uses everything to our good, doesn’t He? LOLOLOL!
Love the new look of the site!

Ok Diane, I can not take it. I just went back real quick to read what I missed (it has been a HUM DINGER of a couple of weeks) and you know I am desperate to know what you did in your kitchen. Did I miss it? Did you use that cool wall paper or not? I HAVE TO KNOW hehe.

Oh, just read your comment back to me on that Christmas traditions post. You know you make me want to cry sometimes because you are so nice to me right? LOL. Even when I get all fired you, you are sweet. I can’t even do that. When other people get all fired up I want to hit them LOL. In my head my Mother is really sweet like you and I hope one day, when I grow up, I am a sweet Mama like you :)

I am thinking of starting a blog again..praying…you will be the second to know.

Off I go, to attempt….to take…a bath…because everyone appears to be asleep. I expect at least two children to scream about something ridiculous as soon as I hit the water LOL.

    Have a great weekend :)

    • Diane Shiffer says:

Ahh… no, I chickened out on the wallpaper. sigh. I think I’m going to go with something simpler and probably just yellow and white. I’ll indulge my wild side with crazy fabrics everyone hates instead ;)

And… oh, I do so hope you start a blog! :)

      • Ace says:

        NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I was so excited!

Oh well. Perhapse you could frame it instead and use it as art?

I bought some beautiful marbled paper from an artist in Brazil. He makes the paper and they use it for the inside covers of books. Since I used to write (and hope to once again) I had seen this paper and LOVED IT and love that it is usd for books. And I was able to purchase a massive piece for like forty bucks total (much less then buying art). I think it was at something like papermojo.com or something like that. Anyhoo, I got these cheap frames at a store where they are basically two pieces of glass with the paper going in between and it looks lovely. It was a good compromise because I would have used it for wall paper and my Husband would have fainted LOL.

I think I am going to start a blog. I miss writing terribly and my youngest has officially made the tranisition to almost usually sleeping through the night. Hehe.

I am going to do it. I am just afraid of all of the trouble I will cause. Sigh, I really can’t help it. If I don’t do it in writing I simply do it in my real life.

I keep praying that God will make me a quiet women, but He hasn’t yet.

I might actually do podcasting and have to prevail upon some blog friends for interviews (whistling, looking around ) I wonder who I will ask LOL.

        Off to fold laundry :)

    Lady Anne says:

Boy! Can I sympathise with your sofa dilemma. We desperately needed a new sofa, preferably a sofa bed, and it took me forever to find THE PERFECT ONE. The fact that the sofa I liked best was made by one company and the fabric we loved was only carried by another just added to the angst. In the end, we spent half again what we would have spent, by dealing with both companies, and we have never regretted it for a minute. Take your time and carry wall paper samples everywhere you go. And make them give you ALL of the scrap fabric left over from the job. I made an extra set of arm covers and a sort of throw for the sofa seat. Oh! Don’t worry about matching the furniture tothe cat – the yonly sleep where they can show off best, so Tilty and his brother would much prefer the white sofa to the gray one.

    • Diane Shiffer says:

I so agree with you Lady Anne… I have some extra of the fabric that my current couches are upholstered with and it has been invaluable! I’ve been able to mend little rips and worn spots and so have been able to make this couch last me so much longer and look nice in the process.

And you’re right about the cats too… sigh.

    Plain Lady says:

The light colored couch is beautiful but would be more of a nightmare than a dream here at our house. I did get a new couch, one that is appropriately farmhouse/barnyard colored!
