After almost an entire year with no purchases, or rather no frivolous purchases (or perhaps more accurately, no guilt-free frivolous purchases,) after a year of that kind of restriction, stopping in at the thrift store just for fun feels like a radical act of self indulgence. Still… I’m managing to adjust. Mmhmm. yeah.

So anyway, the other day, Noah and I made a quick dash into the Goodwill and I was tickled pink to find this brand-new-still-in-its-1960′s-era-package percale double sheet, all 108 x 81 gorgeous rose and dogwood covered inches of it. I think it’ll make up into a sweet little Easter suit for Millen
It’d be perfect to make into matching spring aprons for all the coffee shop gals
The fabric is ideal for that Swirl Dress repro I’ve been promising to make for Amelia
with green gingham facings and black bias trim… ooh sweet!
I don’t know.. I just can’t quite decide what to make out of this lovely fabric.
But of course you know what I’ve already decided.

How fun!!!
Pretty too.
You'll make the right decision, I just know it.
Very pretty, can't wait to see what you decide to make. I love those thrift shop surprises. Enjoy! Heather
Swirl dress – I'd never heard of it. Do you have a pattern for it, or were you going to make it up?
I'm looking for one of those on ebay right now!
hmmmm….You know what I think? I think you should make a sweet summer dress for yourself! I know that probably never crossed your mind. Just a thought…
I think it will be lovely!
Oh dear, what a difficult decision, I can really understand the magnitude of your problem. Let us know what you finally decide – and please let us see the dress you make for yourself!!!
Here's another idea, Diane… How about you make a lovely summer dress for yourself?
Hugs!
That is lovely. That reminds me I need to check out the thrift stores around here. I've been to the main big one, but there are several small ones.
LOL–I'd use it for a quilt back. LOL. After I'd used it on the beds awhile, because I loooove those soft "grandma" sheets. I always pick them up, where-ever I find them…yard sales and estate sales are the BEST for that (especially in the older areas of town where people lived in their houses for decades and never spent money on squat they didn' *need*?).
Even the ones that aren't perfect can be pieced and used to fill in the blanks in some homemade quilt projects…
I actually do NOT know what you picked….I have to learn you better. BUT my vote is an apron for you and your girls, all of you, with a green gingham picket and black bias trim!! Then you can ALL match.
Do the dress for you!
Me, i'd go with a lovely summer dress.
For you
Ooh, pretty! Looking forward to seeing the finished dress … er, whatever you make with it …
Btw, do you or anyone else reading these comments know where we can find patterns for dresses similar to the Swirl dresses? Love the concept! So far I only have one pattern for a similar styled dress … Butterick B4790 (a retro '52 wrap dress). I would love to find others, but when I try to Google Swirl dresses, I get a lot of dresses that are made with swirly fabrics instead LOL!
You are hilarious!!!
(aka Hane): So pretty, indeed! And I bet there'll be ample fabric for that summer dress, plus a little something else for a loved one.
(By the bye, I left you a PM at FJ.)
becks… yeah, i'm pretty sure i will too:-]
heather… and i actually went in looking for cute old sheets too! that rarely happens, to me anyway, lol
lisa.. i actually found an old pattern from the 60's which is quite similar to the original swirl. i plan on making adaptations from that pattern to make as close of a copy of the swirl as i can. i can't remember the brand and number of the pattern offhand, but i'll look it up and share it as soon as i can. promise☺
why mrs rabe! what a wonderful idea! and you're right, i never woulda thought of that. not in a million years. nuh uh.
mamasew…truly it is a momentous decision. i'll have to devote great quantities of time and thought to it… ;-}
great idea kristine! hehehe
barbara.. sometimes the small ones have the niftiest stuff,, right?!
rachel..if i were a quilter, then i'd have another option to choose from.. just what i need, right?
serena… well then my dear, you'll just have to wait and see! heee hee heee:-D
why maura, my dear.. i think i will!
anon.. for me?! why now, i never woulda come up with that idea on my own, i'm sure!
jennifer.. i actually do have an old pattern which is very similar to the old swirl dress. i'll post about it soon! maybe even tomorrow☺
I think I might have had those sheets when I was a very young bride. and a summer dress for you…what a grand idea!!!!
hane… you know what? is it the message you wrote me weeks ago? i just saw that like two days ago.. eek! there is something wonky about my inbox over there. i never see my messages unless i actually go into my inbox and look. did you happen to get the return message i sent?
btw, i actually bought millen a brown pair of sketchers at the thrift store on this same shopping trip. they were brand new! and i thought of you when i got 'em☺
really terri?! how cool is that!
as a very busy involved mother…I think it would be a perfect dress for YOU…..why not ??
Deby
Oh dear me…I'm coveting your fabric! ;o) I LOVE it!
